AQSIQ: marked decline in 2016 elevator accident amount
According to reported statistics, China has witness 48 cases of elevator accidents and death toll comes to 41, leading to a dramatic decline compared to the figures in 2015.
The elevator possessing capacity has been around 4.9 million sets in China by the end of 2016, as many as one third of the global capacity and as 5 times as 10 years ago. China has a stable fatality rate of every 10000 sets of elevators, which is quite close to the rate in developed countries.
As for Shanghai, it has over 220 thousand sets of serviced elevators, making the country owning the most elevators in service worldwide for more than 10 years. However Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta surrounding it has the most concentrated elevator industry in the world so far, with over 150 elevator manufacturers and hundreds of component suppliers, as the largest elevator industrial cluster. The area has provided over 450 thousand sets of elevator equipment per year, approximately up to half of the production and sales volume of the world and two thirds of the domestic amount.
Moreover, the area would be covered with the Shanghai Wise Elevator Management and Service Platform and gradually establishing its own safety management chain by the end of 2018, with over 50000 sets of elevators under its systematic management. Until 2020, the Shanghai Elevator Big Data Center is expected to complete and the Wise Elevator Network would be preliminarily formed, bringing over 150000 sets of elevators under its supervision.
